I don’t know if I am the only man, who has at one time contemplated the meaning of turning 30, but that’s what has been on my mind over these last few months as my 30th birthday approaches. It all started when I did a self-evaluation test, asking myself questions regarding my future goals and plans. For the longest time, I’ve had two main goals, one – to write my first feature length screenplay, and two – to finish designing my own website.
As you can see, I have practically finished my website, though that is an ongoing task. The vision I had for my website was slightly different in the beginning, but as usual, my plans change and evolve as I put more time into a project. My real goal with a website was to showcase my work like a porfolio site, but also to incorporate blogging elements in the style of a journal and to have a one stop destination of sorts for all things Matt. So with that in mind, I do feel like I have captured my vision with this website, but there’s always more work to do.
As far as the second goal – that’s still a work in progress. Actually here’s a real-time update. I have until June 17th to finish my first screenplay or else . . . actually there are no real consequences other than the disappointment of not achieving a goal. But it helps to have a goal to work towards and my 30th birthday sounded logical. As of today I have written about 20 pages of my screenplay – still in the first act, and about 70 pages to go. Yes, I am not even half-way finished with less than two months to go.
So let’s do the math together – how many pages would I have to write per day to complete my goal? With about 45 days left and 70 pages to go, I would have to write 1.5 pages a day. Sounds feasible, maybe even easy. Still I have to make the effort on a daily basis to achieve it. Feel free to comment if you wish or tell me I’m crazy or ask me why I’m doing it. To answer the last question, I’m doing it because I’ve always wanted to write screenplays and I have to start by making the effort and sacrifice now or it won’t happen.
Stay tuned for more updates as I strive to complete my two goals before my 30th birthday.
